There’s far too much going on in this book to cover even a quarter of it here, but I will say Moore melancboly now one of my favorite authors. Let me know what y’all find. The absurd and hilarious doesn’t present itself much before 70 to 80 pages in, but to his credit, he is developing characters during that time.

You have a stoner constable who is best friends with a recluse biologist who owns a dog named Skinner funniest internal monologue btw. I loved the way Moorse chose to describe things- ie “It wasn’t that their the townpeople anxiety was gone, but rather that it ran off their backs like warm rain off a naked toddler who had just discovered the splash and magic of mud”.
The beast eats the pharmacist, clearing Val’s reputation.

I ain’t got so much as a sniff at a clue. Theo catches the Sheriff before he can escape, and with the Spider’s and all the witnesses’ help, puts the Sheriff in jail for life. While Moore does reuse characters from his previous books as well as reference a few things, on the whole you don’t need to have read the earlier novels to understand this one.
Very hysterical story line. This story follows the adventures of Theo the constable of the town, Pine Cove, as he has to deal with his town going crazy, and some monster on the loose destroying tanker trucks and eating paper boys.
Every single character is unique and differentiated from the others in very obvious ways, all of them having major quirks and strong defining personality traits, giving them all an eccentric quality, especially Steve the giant lizard from the sea.
